The international scientific-methodical conference "Actual problems of legal education in the context of training on alternative dispute resolution as an approach for ensuring human rights" was held  at the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State University with the support of the Law College of the Belarusian State University on the 29th November - 3rd December, 2016. The conference was held with the financial support of the European Commission in the framework of international TRADIR Tempus-project in cooperation with the University of Potsdam (Germany), Link Campus University (Italy), Vilnius University (Lithuania), the Mary Skalovskay-Curie University (Poland), Boleslawa Markowskiego High School of Commerce in Kielce (Poland), Yanka Kupala State University of Hrodna, the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers (Belarus), Ivan Franko Lviv National University, V. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Khmelnytsky University of Management and Law (Ukraine).

More than 70 leading academics, teachers and legal practitioners in the fields of training on alternative methods of resolution of legal disputes from Belarus, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine took part in the conference.

During the opening ceremony of the conference guests were welcomed by the Dean of the Law faculty of BSU, Doctor of Law, Professor Siarhei Balashenka, Head of the TRADIR project, Head of Criminal Law Department of Potsdam University, Doctor of Law, Professor Uwe Hellmann, the Chairman of the Belarusian Republican Union of Lawyers ,Doctor of Law, Professor Victor Kamiankou.

The plenary session was divided into three parts. In the first part information about the results of the international project was delivered by the Quality Manager of the TRADIR Tempus-project, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Prosecutorial Supervision of BSU, PhD Vadzim Samaryn, TRADIR Tempus-project manager Sarah Nitz (University of Potsdam), on behalf of graduate students - graduate student of the Faculty of Law of the State University of Hrodna Anastasia Atapovich, from the European Union - Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University, PhD Vėbraitė Vigita, from the universities of Ukraine - Associate Professor of the Department on Criminal Procedure and forensic science of the Lviv National University, PhD Vasil Lutsyk.

The second part was devoted to the methodological aspects of training on alternative dispute resolution. The reports of an assistant-lecturer of the Department on Private Law of Vilnius University, PhD Victor Terekhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law and Procedure of State University of Hrodna, PhD Avak Vartanian, Head of the Department on Civil Procedure and Labor Law of the Belarusian State University, PhD Aksana Zdrok, Associate Professor of the Department of the Theory and History of State and Law of the Belarusian State University, PhD Iryna Viarshok, Associate Professor of the Department on Civil Law of the Belarusian State University, PhD Dziana Ivanova, Associate Professor of the Department on Civil Law of the Belarusian State University, PhD Marya Miashchanava, Associate professor of  the Department on Criminal Procedure and Prosecutorial Supervision of the Belarusian State University, PhD Olga Petrova on the specifics of teaching on alternative dispute resolution in various areas of law were heard.

The scientific part was filled with discussions, which were caused by the reports of the lecturer of the Law Faculty of the University of Potsdam, assistant to the Landtag of Brandenburg, PhD Eyk Ueberschär, Associate Professor of the Department on Civil Law and Procedure of Lviv National University, PhD Julia Navrotska, Head of the Department of criminal law (primarily economic criminal law) of the University of Potsdam, Doctor of law, Professor Uwe Hellmann, Head of the Department on Criminal Trial of the Russian State University of Justice, Doctor of law Oksana Kachalova, Head of the Department on Criminal Law of the Kharkiv National University, Doctor of Law, Professor Alexander Zhytni, Head of the Department on Public prosecutor of the Institute of retraining and advanced training of judges, prosecutors, employees of courts and institutions of justice of the Belarusian State University, Professor of the Department on Criminal Procedure and Prosecutorial Supervision of the Belarusian State University, PhD Lyudmila Zaitseva and Professor of the Department on International and European Law at the Khmelnytsky University of Management and Law, PhD Olena Dyminska.

The conference proceeded on the second day within two sections:

Section I. Scientific and legal problems of alternative methods of dispute resolution in the field of private law.

Section II. Scientific and legal problems of alternative methods of dispute resolution in the field of public law.

Each report caused interesting and informative discussion among conference participants. The discussions were led by venerable moderators assistant professor Darya Lando and associate professor Olga Petrova.

A winter tour to the famous Niaswizh Palace of the Radziwill family for the conference participants took place after discussions in the sections.

The results of the conference were finalized on the third day (moderators associate professors Aleh Maroz and Vadzim Samaryn). The participants visited forensic testing ground of the Law faculty of the Belarusian State University and the Museum of History of the Law Faculty. The guests had possibility to learn more about Belarusian culture during visiting in the evening of the comedy "The last one who laughs" (by Kandrat Krapiva) in the Cinemactors Theater.

At the end of February 2017, after a year and a half of pilot training, Master’s degrees were awarded to Graduates of the new master’s programme in the field of alternative dispute resolution by Deans of the Law Faculties of Lviv National University, Kharkiv National University and Khmelnitsky University of Management and Law. Pilot training was successfully realized in all partners in Ukraine and the first professionals were able to occupy their niche in the field of jurisprudence.

How nice to see young faces, gleaming smiles on!!! Indeed, our graduates can open the door to a new world!

TRADIR-project officially was finished in June 2017, but the results continue to be disseminated. 

4-6 October 2017 associate professors of the Department on environmental and agrarian law of the Belarusian State University took part as key experts in the I Kharkiv International Legal Forum "Law and the challenges of sustainable development in a globalized world".

The associate professor Aleh Maroz (regional TRADIR-manager) began panel discussion "Legal basis for environmental and food security: issues of implementation of international standards" drawing attention to the status and prospects of legal support of environmental support of the economic and other activities in the Republic of Belarus.

In her speech the associate professor Veranika Saskevich highlighted the legal regulation of the state support of agriculture in the Republic of Belarus.

During the visit the Belarusian experts gave their colleagues a complete collection of manuals published in Minsk within TRADIR-project for the library of the National University of Law named after Yaroslav Mudry. According to the vice-rector of the National Law University named after Yaroslav Mudry Anatoly Get'man this gift has become timely in connection with the construction of a new building of the university library and the books will be in demand among students and faculty of the university.

 

conference “Reform of legal education in Belarus and the UK: the exchange of experience and vision for the future” was held by Ostrogorski Centre and the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State University with the support of the British Embassy on 28th December, 2017 in Minsk. 

The conference was devoted to the issues of legal education and its potential role in the reform process in Belarus. The conference allowed the British and Belarusian scientists to discuss best practices and trends in the field of legal education. In particular, the panels discussed the organization of educational process, skills of students and professionals, as well as opportunities for international cooperation in the field of legal education.

Quality Manager of the TRADIR Project Associate Professor Vadzim Samaryn as the Speaker took part in the third panel “International cooperation in the field of legal education”, dedicating his report to joint educational projects and their financing, as well as the organization of international conferences. The main content of the report was to familiarize the participants with the results of the implementation of the TRADIR project.

 

During the conference was broadcast live on the Internet.

On June 20-21, 2018 Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law of the Belarusian State University Dr. Darya Lando was on a visit to Tbilissi (Georgia) at the invitation of the Georgian Patent Office. The main purpose of the visit was to participate as an expert in the International Seminar on Intellectual Property (IP) and Education.

The seminar was organized under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization and devoted to intellectual property and related educational programs and strategies, as well as intellectual property and innovation in the teaching of basic methodologies. The experts presented the international experience and successful examples from different countries.

In her speech, Dr. Lando highlighted the implementation of Tempus-projects at the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State University. Especially she described a new master's program opened due to the TRADIR project. Our author took the opportunity and presented several TRADIR course books for placement in the library to Nikolaz Godilidze - the chairman of Sakpatenti (the Georgian patent body).
